All Field trips are curriculum-based and are an integral part of our curriculum. HSA will establish an annual contribution/class to off-set the cost of these field trips. Any additional expenses incurred will be the responsibility of the parent/guardian. Anyone needing financial assistance for field trips should contact the school principal.

 

A letter with a permission slip will be sent home containing all necessary information about an upcoming trip. All students must return this signed permission slip by the deadline. A student may not call parents/guardians to request the permission slip on the day of the field trip. Permission will not be accepted over the telephone. Parents/guardians have the right to refuse to allow their children to participate in a field trip. Any student not participating in a field trip is absent from school for the day.

 

Parent/guardians may be asked to act as chaperones. The teacher will notify the parents/guardians who have been selected to act as chaperones.

 

Chaperone Guidelines:

• All chaperones must have completed the Criminal History Records Check through the Archdiocesan Child Protection Office, as well as completion of the 3-hour VIRTUS training. (See the Child Protection pages.)
• All school rules are enforced, unless the principal has explicitly stated otherwise.
• Chaperones are to stay with their assigned groups.
• Supervision is both mental and physical. Attention must always be focused on the students.
• If your child is on a field trip, s/he must not be treated differently from any other child.
• Younger children may not accompany chaperones on the field trip.
• Your first responsibility is the safety of the students.

 

 

Field trips are a privilege and students can be denied participation if their behavior is not acceptable according to the code of conduct for St. Bernadette School.
