Procedure for Outdoor Recess

All parents reporting for Lunch Duty are asked to please take a moment to review these Outdoor Recess Guidelines.

Overview: Each school day two of the Lunch Duty parents are assigned recess duties. These two parents accompany Mrs. Emberson, as well as an additional staff member, outside to supervise the students during their recess period. Following each lunch period, there are recess periods for each grade level. The first recess period is grades 6–8; the second is grades 3–5; and the final recess period is grades K–2.

Recess Guidelines:

  • Each parent will be assigned a specific area to monitor as well as an assigned location to ensure adequate supervision of the students.
  • Parents are asked to refrain from conversations with other adults on duty in order to fully focus their attention on supervising the students.
  • In the event of an injury to a student, parents are asked to notify Mrs. Emerson.
  • All discipline issues should be brought to the immediate attention of Mrs. Emerson.
  • The outdoor recess area includes the upper black top, field and playground.
  • Only the students in grade K–5 may use the playground at recess.
  • Children may not play on or behind the trailers at any time.
  • Children may not play on the grassy area between the playground and lower parking lot.
  • When the bell rings signaling the end of the recess period, parents are to help usher all children to the appropriate line-up area.
  • Once the children have lined up, parents are to return to their original position for the next recess period.
  • At the conclusion of the final recess period, parents are asked to stay in the line up area supervising the students until their homeroom teacher picks up the students.
  • All childrent must remain on school property at all times.
  • Parent volunteers should not contact other parents concerning issues with or between students. If you are concerned about a child or incident, please contact Mrs. Cantwell or Mrs. Natalicchio.
